Labiaplasty, the surgical reduction of the labia minora, has significantly increased
in demand. Australian statistics demonstrate a three-fold increase for 15-24 year
olds from 2001-13, the UK shows a five-fold increase for all women from 2001-8, and
the US reported a 44% increase for all women from 2012 -13. There has been no change
in demand in Australia and the UK for under 15 year olds, suggesting that medically
necessary surgical intervention has not changed over time.
