Idiopathic nephrotic syndrome is a glomerular disease characterized by proteinuria
which leads to hypoalbuminemia and peripheral edema. Dependent edema is a common sequela
of the protein-deficient state, often starting as periorbital edema and migrating
to the lower extremities and sacral region. In boys with protein-wasting disorders,
this may result in scrotal edema. Less frequently described in the literature is edema
in the female homologue, the labia majora. We present a case of unusually severe dependent
labial edema in a prepubertal girl with idiopathic nephrotic syndrome.
